When Life Feels Like a Merry-Go-Round You Can't Get Off
There are seasons in life when everything moves so fast you can barely catch your breath. The days blur together. The noise never stops. You're spinning, and no matter how hard you try, you can't seem to find the exit or a reason to keep going...
That's what life can feel like sometimes: a merry-go-round you never chose to get on, turning and turning, and the world around you is just a smear of color and motion. You smile because that's what you do on a merry-go-round. You hold on because that's what you do when you're afraid of falling.
But somewhere in the spinning, something shifts, and you feel nausea and are unsure of everything around you
The Reach
There comes a moment, and if you've lived long enough, you know this moment when the ride gets to be too much. When the noise becomes deafening, and the speed becomes terrifying, and you realize you've been gripping that bar so tight your knuckles have gone white.
That's when you reach it.
You stretch your arms out, maybe awkwardly, maybe desperately, maybe with the last bit of courage you have, toward the one who can hide you. Not hide you from your life, but hide you in something larger than yourself. A safe place. Someone whose arms don't move when everything else does.
There is something profound about that reach. It is the bravest thing a person can do. To admit, mid-spin, that you need an anchor. To stop pretending the speed doesn't bother you.
To let yourself be held.
The Slowing
And here's what nobody tells you about life: it has a way of slowing you down.
Sometimes it's a loss. Sometimes it's an illness. Sometimes it's a quiet Tuesday morning when the weight of everything just lands on you all at once. Life has its own rhythm, and it will find ways to interrupt yours, not to punish you, but to return you to yourself.
The slowdown is not the enemy. It is the invitation.
When life slows, you start to see things you missed. The faces of the people you love. The beauty in small moments.
Getting Off the Ride
You may not be able to stop the merry-go-round entirely. Life keeps moving. Responsibilities don't pause. The world does not hold still on your behalf, and it never will.
But you don't have to ride it alone.
And sometimes, if you're willing to stretch your arms out, if you're willing to reach, the ride slows just enough for you to feel the ground beneath your feet again. To breathe. To remember who you are when you're not spinning.
That's the win. Not that the merry-go-round stops. But that you found someone to hold onto while it turns. Be sure to have your person who holds you up and who cares
And that makes all the difference.
