Build it together, or build it first?
To build with someone is to have them know the version of you that had nothing. The struggle becomes history. But that’s a bond you can’t create later. And it means you’re both guessing. If one person collapses, the whole thing can fall down.
Building alone first means you come with proof. You know what you can tolerate. You're selecting a person, not ordering one. But you’re also handing someone a finished house and asking them to feel at home in rooms they never helped design.
Neither is safer. Wrong guy, wrong building. Being someone who is unable to share is another risk.
The question is not when you let someone in. It's whether you still want them around when you don't want them around anymore.

Build it with someone?
Because the person who meets you at the finish line never saw you crawl. They get the polished version, the one that already knows what it's doing.
But the person who was there when you had nothing? They watched you figure it out. They know which wins cost you something. They know what you looked like before you learned how to make it look easy.
Yes, it's riskier. You're betting on someone who hasn't proven anything yet, just as they're betting on you. That's the whole point. Anyone can love the finished thing. Almost nobody signs up for the construction.
And the foundation you pour alone will always have your shape. There's no room in it for anyone else; you'll spend years teaching someone how to live in a house they never touched.
Build it together. Let the thing you make have both of you in it.
